ArchBang desktop - Minimalistic dark openbox by kjeksomanen ArchBang desktop - Minimalistic dark openbox by kjeksomanen
Minor update:
Changed picture #2 to an updated one with a different website because the original was so.. empty. The page viewed is, as shown in the command bar of vimperator, my page for Vim: vim.thevoid.no

What/why:
Playing around with Openbox in ArchBang. Been wanting to try Openbox for a long time and I've recently got the opportunity at work while using VM. I'm loving it so much that I've set up another VM at home to play more with it. Probably going to install it on my laptop aswell!

Chose ArchBang because Arch Linux is the obvious choice for me, but couldn't be arsed to spend too much time setting Arch up, and wanted to see if ArchBang was any good, and it was!

How:
GTK: T3K amadme.deviantart.com/art/T3K-…
Openbox: Surreal box-look.org/content/show.php?…
Tint2: custom github.com/timss/dotfiles/blob…
Icons: Faenza tiheum.deviantart.com/art/Faen…
Fonts: DejaVu Sans and DejaVuSans Mono
Wallpaper: inthewind from wallpaper pack 24 pixelfuckers.org/submissions/1…
Terminal: terminator github.com/timss/dotfiles/blob… with pastel colors github.com/timss/dotfiles/blob…
Firefox: Vimperator github.com/timss/dotfiles/blob… and custom style dump.thevoid.no/docs/config/pr…
Vim: github.com/timss/vimconf (old deviantArt submission: kjeksomanen.deviantart.com/art… )
Irssi: kjeksomanen.deviantart.com/art… (but with nickcolor on)

I've also removed the icon on the titlebar of Openbox by using Openbox configuration manager -> appearance and remove the 'N' under Window titles.

Awesome setup!
Maybe a dumb question but where does the firefox.css file go?

You can for example use the addon Stylish and add it as a style, or you could use userChrome.css in your local Firefox profile folder. See wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/F… for more information about that last bit.

Please enlighten me, does Openbox / Pekwm support GTK2 themes?

In what way do you mean? There are separate configurations/themes between Openbox and GTK-applications, that is, you don't use the same theme for GTK as you would for your Openbox. And you style GTK- and Qt-applications however you want regardless if your chosen window manager.

With my Openbox setup I use lxappearance to choose GTK-theme and qtconfig to choose Qt-theme (set to use GTK+). Here's a preview of my lxappearance: [link]

Hope that answered your question, isn't too sure if I understood you correctly :)

Mhm... I meant If you could install GTK2 Themes and use them in your Openbox DE. Because from what I see in this shot, T3K is a GTK2 theme, and you use it in your File Manager... [that Nautilus?]

I sure do use Openbox as a DE, but you don't really install the GTK2-theme to anything related to Openbox, just in your local GTK+ configuration, which I've chosen to use lxappearance for. This means that yes, you can use GTK2-themes in an Openbox-setup, but it isn't really related to Openbox itself if I've understood it correctly.

Btw there is no file manager in this snapshot, closest thing would maybe be Nitrogen which I use to choose my wallpaper.

I would prefer to use notes here if you'd like to talk about customization, but it's "Occi" at Freenode :) I don't use Jabber.

Hi,

yep I was using Openbox but never used the tilling plugin.
I just want to test the new awesome 3 tilling window manager.
Its like Openbox (with some plugins) and there a lot tilling modes you can use.
Some tilling modes and a floating (like Openbox) mode.

Maybe I'll give it a go. It's not all that important to me to use Openbox, it's just that it had a nice feel to it and I really like the lx*-applications. Just plain KISS. The "legendary" *-box menu is also rather nice to be honest, I'm not missing any "start menu" or anything.

Thanks, appreciate it.

Actually I'm not using anything to tile it, I just manually resized it :\ Currently just playing with in Virtualbox, but when/if I'm going to install it on my laptop I'll probably check out the different tiling-plugins for openbox. Not sure yet, maybe a full-blown tiling manager with floating-options like i3.

Have you used Openbox with a tiling plugin before?

Thanks! Running pure Arch Linux on both my desktop and laptop, but even though it's against "the arch way" [link] I have to say I'm simply loving ArchBang. It's simply a great experience!

And yeah, surreal is great, was shipped with ArchBang so didn't have to look long for a good Openbox theme.
